The Wandering Aesthete

A look into the mind of someone committed to art, culture, and embracing the crazy.

Hopefully none of my university friends are reading this because if they are, they’ll know me at once. Hmm, no matter.

I am often chided even mocked for something my friends and I refer to as ‘Blind support’.

Blind support (verb): An act of friendship where one party wholly and an unswervingly defends the other.

Perhaps you need an example?

Roommate: Oh my god I’m going to fail this test! (That she has yet to study for and has attended no classes)

Me: Of course you won’t! How could you? You are far too smart to fail, plus you look SO lovely today!

(Other roommates roll their eyes)

Now, some of you may be siding with my roommates. That’s perfectly fine, but let me explain.

My blind support does not extend to everyone. I use it only when I truly believe in and love unconditionally the person to whom I’m speaking. I beg you, what use would there be on the day of her exam for me to lecture my roommate about her poor attendance? As I do think she is beautiful and brilliant nothing I am saying is untrue.

Blind support is not something to be used without conviction, nor without forethought. Use it sparingly, use it wisely, and use it justly.
