PHILO⋄SOFIA: ★ HAPPY NEW YEAR! ★ →
philo-sofia: “Heaven preserve me from littleness and pleasantness and smoothness. Give me great glaring vices, and great glaring virtues, but preserve me from the neat little neutral ambiguities. Be wicked, be brave, be drunk, be reckless, be dissolute, be despotic, be a suffragette, be anything you like, but…

New Years Resolutions, for my readers...
All cards on the table, I do my New Years Resolutions in November. It’s just one of my weird ‘me’ things so let’s not dwell. But yes, they are going swimmingly, thank you.  So this year I’m doing something fun (for me). I’m making resolutions for all of you. These are some just some things that I think of, that I mention on my twitter, or that I see happening...

“Good is towing the line, being behaved, being quiet, being passive, fitting in, being liked, and great is being messy, having a belly, speaking your mind, standing up for what you believe in, fighting for another paradigm, not letting people talk you out of what you know to be true.”  Eve Ensler

The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, T.S. Eliot...
Let us go then, you and I, When the evening is spread out against the sky Like a patient etherized upon a table; Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets, The muttering retreats Of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells: Streets that follow like a tedius argument Of insidious intent To lead you to an overwhelming question… Oh, do not ask,...

A mere request
A friend pointed out that I have the gift of removal. That I have the ability to separate myself from a situation, to understand the motivations of others, as something distinct from the effect it has on me. I had never thought of this as a gift, but rather a curse. For if you can understand why someone does the things they do, it is very hard to fault them for it.  I had no idea how rare this...

The most wonderful time of the year, or is it?
The holidays can be lovely. White snow falling gracefully. A perpetual smell of cookies baking. Champagne is encouraged all hours of the day.  Then there is what the holidays are really like. Running around trying to find the perfect gift for the person you hadn’t really wanted to get a gift for. Decorating a tree alone, like a few of my RSGs did, or being left out of the celebration, like...

Not so blind support.
Hopefully none of my university friends are reading this because if they are, they’ll know me at once. Hmm, no matter.  I am often chided even mocked for something my friends and I refer to as ‘Blind support’.  Blind support (verb): An act of friendship where one party wholly and an unswervingly defends the other.  Perhaps you need an example?  Roommate: Oh my god I’m...

The Long Love, Sir Thomas Wyatt
The long love that in my thought doth harbour,  And in mine heart doth keep his residence,  Into my face presseth with bold pretence,  And therein campeth, spreading his banner.  She that me learneth to love and suffer,  And wills that my trust and lust’s negligence  Be reined by reason, shame, and reverence,  With his hardiness taketh displeasure.  Wherewithal, unto the heart’s forest...

#AviciiIsForever
If you read my twitter you must know that I’m obsessed with Avicii. More than that, I’m obsessed with electro in general. It appears that most of the RSGs that I correspond with via twitter share this same affection for it, so perhaps an explanation is necessary?  If you don’t listen to electro you probably thing its repetitive nonsense made exclusively for people on Cocaine,...

Tears, Idle Tears by Alfred Tennyson
Tears, idle tears, I know not what they mean, Tears from the depth of some divine despair Rise in the heart, and gather to the eyes, In looking on the happy Autumn-fields, And thinking of the days that are no more. Fresh as the first beam glittering on a sail, That brings our friends up from the underworld, Sad as the last which reddens over one That sinks with all we love below the verge; So...

The politics of discussion
I recently had a discussion after far too many g&t’s with a dear friend of mine, one of the brilliant minds behind @strugfest (If you don’t follow this account you should). Our discussion was based around the issues I had been having at my Canadian university. As an American in Canada I am often on the other side of most political debates. Note: This blog will not endorse any...

Introductions
I suppose I should start this out by a thank you. A thank you to my followers on twitter who retweet me and reply to my erratic tweets. A thank you to my RobeandSlippersGirls who share my neuroses, terrifying families, and love of a good time. A thank you to anyone who is reading this, because I truly can’t imagine why anyone would.  To matters of business. I have thought long and hard...
